As and when I heard that this movie is based in Wasseypur/Dhanbad of Bihar I thought its again a stereotypic political drama of a Gupta or a Choudhary family of Bihar but unexpectedly it’s a conflict started ages back during pre independence era between Khans and Qureshis with a rich Singh who enters in the story and acts as a pendulum provoking both the parties for his own benefits. The movie opens with the opening sequence of Kyuki saans bhi kabhi bahu thi being watched by villagers and then BAM, the gun shots follow engaging you in to the story!  Anurag Kashyap intelligently wanted to show so many social elements and ailments in the long duration of 160min. He succeeded in gripping the audiences’ attention but as there’s a lot on your platter you go haywire at times while seriously watching the movie trying to connect all the dots. Nevertheless the movie doesn’t fail to impress the mass. The story telling is excellent and I actually observed that few people were crouching on their couch so as to concentrate on the dialogues! The elements of ruthlessness and hatred unlike many other Mafia movies are damn natural. Major mention should be the characters sketched by Anurag which will be imprinted in your mind. Jaideep Ahlawat who is Shahid khan in the movie loots the trains and becomes a forever enemy of Qureshis when Britishers were still ruling in India. Post independence he works for Ramadhir singh. The characters are so raw and natural that they enter in to your skin. While watching the first half I didnt realise there was no full length song and the way initial (pre/post independence) story unfolds I felt like am watching pages out of Malgudi days! Manoj Bajpayee is the heart of the movie. Be it Bhiku matre or Veerendra pratap singh this man is terrific and seems as if he is in love with every role he plays. As Sardar khan the dialogues he delivered will be remembered forever by viewers.

“mere Jindagi ka Ek hi Maksad hai! Badla .  Marunga nai, uski “Keh Ke loonga” ! The keh ke loonga song has already become a cult!

“Hamare bĂȘte Daanis ko kuch hojata na to itna goli maarte ki aapka driver bi khaali khokha bech bech ke raiz hojaata”

The humor and subtle moral filled shayris in songs are also worth mentioning.

“Garibi tod deti hai jo risste khaas hote hain
Aur paraaye apne hote hain jab paise paas hote hain
Aey.. har yaar wafadaar nahi hota
Har patthar chamakdar nahi hota
Na jaane ban mein kitne phool khile hain
Har phool khushbudar nahi hota”

Music by Sneha Khanwalkar  (Oye lucky lucky fame who also hosts sound trippin) added spice and sparkle to the already lively Bihar. Another Manoj who added magic is Manoj Tiwari the famous Bhojpuri Hero . He sang Jiya ho Bihar ke laala. Tigmanshu Dhuliya is a surprise package. No other person could have done justice to the Ramadhir singh’s role!Richa Chadda(also a Oyelucky lucky fame) who acted as a lady with strong jigar and Kaleja steals the show as Sardar Khan’s wife Najma Khatoon. The way she threatens her husband and then finally accepts the fact that he cant control his lust and requests him to eat properly so that he doesn’t spoil the family’s name outside is just hilarious! Piyush Mishra’s narrative is a great relief and brings you again in to the movie in case you are drifted due to continuous plots and generations! He plays a convincing role as Sardar Khan’s advisor cum well wisher! Nawazuddin Siddiqui  who is actually Faizal Khan is dynamic, funny and as per the script may have a major role in GOW II !Reema Sen a Bengali who charms our Sardar Khan has a short but good  role where she is perfectly shown as an enticing lady! Other than that there’s no much scope for acting! MY personal favourite song is O womaniya which keeps playing in the background. If you google and know the translation it effectively describes what all a woman should and should not do. I just loved this song. Music/ songs blended along with the action scenes and dialogues some times which was a perfect mix! This movie is definitely not for the moral police and social workers who cannot digest the cuss words and protest saying movies should have a cause or moral. It’s a realistic story which just has a thin line between facts and imaginations!

The pun and humor intended in the Hunter’s gun and also the light humor while Faizal flirts with Huma Qureshi and Sardar flirts with Durga or operates the dysfunctional bombs and guns is hilarious. Reviews say that this style is like Quentin Tarantino’s and few scenes are parallel to God Father’s! Whatever might be the similarities, Kashyap’s hardwork shows and its both the mother and father of all native revenge drama kinda movies! The film is enjoyable along with love, lust , music, anger, dark secrets, powerful dialogues, revenge, foolery and much more! The film doesn’t leave you over whelmed. You kinda leave the theatre feeling empty probably due to the lingering GOW II ! As Kashyap has set a bench mark, there is lot of expectation from the sequel! Bollywood has finally come out of the conventional comfort zone and can compete with Hollywood as we have filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap and Vishal  Bharadwaj likes!

Lastly, viewers are loving “haillloo” and this punch line“Ye Wasseypur hai Bhaiyya! Yehaan Kabootar bhi ek Pankh se udta hai aur dusre se apna Ijjat bachata hai”!:)

I leave you with my fav song below!

  4. the movie was like an old wine,it stood out to be better than the first part, more than the actors, the whole screenplay spoke for itself, screenplay has to be a real protagonist of this film.the movie deserves a big round of applause for it's sheer brilliance.
